Asustek Computer has been expanding its mobile computers market share quite rapidly in the recent years, thanks to high-end notebooks as well as low-cost netbooks, but in order to make a further jump the company needs attractive mainstream laptops that are very popular among consumers nowadays. According to some media reports, the company has is about to start a serious assault on this market.

Asustek Computer has teamed up with Best Buy – one of the U.S. biggest retail chains – as well as Foxconn Electronics (a trademark of Hon Hai Precision Industry) – once the company’s arch-rival on the market of contract electronics manufacturing – in order to create a highly-competitive lineup of mobile computers that will be sold across the USA in Best Buy stores.

According to Taiwan Economic News, in the three-party cooperation, Asustek will handle designing and crafting; Foxconn Electronics will take charge of manufacturing; and Best Buy will be responsible for offering design concepts that meet local consumer demand and distributing finished products.

The collaboration between three companies is a rather unusual one as Asustek and Foxconn have been competitors for many years and the latter is hardly interested in helping to push Asus-branded products. However, during the times of global economic crisis many companies reconsider their priorities and begin to collaborate in the fields where it makes sense.

These days Asustek needs to solidify and improve its positions on the market of branded notebooks, whereas Foxconn Electronics is interested in gaining as many clients as possible to boost utilization of its manufacturing capacities. Naturally, Best Buy is focused on getting the best possible products it can into its stores and collaboration with well-known brand may become a success for the retail chain.

Neither Asustek, nor Best Buy or Foxconn commented on the news-story.
