Acer Group, the world’s third largest maker of personal computers, on Tuesday officially unveiled the industry’s first nettop with Nvidia core-logic inside. Based on the much discussed Ion/GeForce 9400M platform can enable relatively high-performance graphics processing as well as a list of advanced features.

“The AspireRevo is small and quiet enough to go anywhere, yet big enough to handle all the needs of your digital lifestyle. It's perfectly suited for the living room, because Nvidia Ion provides a brilliant graphics experience with digital photos, watching video, and playing family-friendly games,” said Gianpiero Morbello, corporate vice president of marketing at Acer.

Acer AspireRevo nettop is based on Intel Atom 230 (1.60GHz) processor and Nvidia GeForce 9400M core-logic with integrated DirectX 10-class graphics adapter. The system can be equipped with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, up to 250GB hard disk drive and so on. The AspireRevo has extensive set of connectors: D-Sub, HDMI, USB 2.0, eSATA and so on. The system is equipped with card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1-channel audio (audio-over-HDMI is supported) and other necessary features.

In order to take advantage of the latest technologies, Acer decided to install Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium onto its nettop. While this decision ensures that owners will get proper support, performance of the operating system may be extremely low on Intel Atom processor.

Nvidia Ion platform enables DirectX 10, hardware-accelerated high-definition vide playback as well as some other advantages over first-generation Intel Atom-based platforms.

Pricing of Acer AspireRevo is not announced and depends on the region and configuration.

It would be much better suited and cheaper to use a Linux 'Myth' operating system, at least then the underpowered Atom would not come to a complete standstill when doing even the most mundane of tasks using the virus called vista
