Toshiba Corp. on Monday unveiled what it calls the world’s first laptop that supports Blu-ray 3D playback. The new dynabook TX/98MBL is equipped with a 120Hz LCD screen along with Nvidia 3D Vision kit and will initially be available in Japan only. In Europe a similar model will be available under Satellite A665 name.

Toshiba dynabook TX/98MBL is based on Intel Core i7-470QM (1.73GHz, 2.93GHz TurboBoost) microprocessor, is equipped with 15.6” Wide LED LCD with 120Hz refresh rate along with Nvidia GeForce GTS 350M graphics accelerator (DirectX 10.1, 96 stream processors, 128-bit GDDR3 memory controller, 1GB memory, HybridPower technology support and so on). Other specs include 4GB DDR3 memory, 640GB hard drive, Blu-ray disc drive, remote control, Nvidia 3D Vision kit and so on.

Toshiba did not reveal the resolution of the dynabook TX/98MBL screen, but indirectly implied in its press release that it does support 1920x1080 resolution (1080p, full-HD). However, in case of Satellite A665, the company did state that it only sports screen resolution of 1366x768, which will not allow to enjoy Blu-ray movies in their maximum quality. It is highly likely that the Japanese notebook also does not support full-HD.

The dynabook TX/98MBL complements its high grade visual experience with a combination of harman/kardon stereo speakers and Dolby Advanced Audio.

Blu-ray 3D movie support requires Nvidia’s new driver package and Corel Blu-ray player software, available for download in Q4 2010.

Both dynabook TX/98MBL and Satellite A665 will be available by the end of July. Pricing is unknown.
