Hewlett-Packard has officially promised to reveal at least one Windows 8-based tablet for business users this year, but did not provide any details. According to an unofficial leak, the HP Slate 8 promises to be pretty impressive with advanced security features, x86 microprocessor, 8-10 hours of battery life as well as thin and light form-factor.

According to a promotional slide, which is said to be originated from HP, published by Neowin web-site, the HP Slate 8 tablet will feature Windows 8 Professional operating system (which means usage of an Intel x86 system-on-chip and compatibility with all Windows programs), 10.1" screen as well as support for numerous security features. The device will be thinner than the new Apple iPad and will weigh around 680 grams. The slate is designed for business and enterprise customers and will probably feature appropriate programs pre-installed.

Based on the image of the business tablet - which is actually a nearly fully-fledged personal computer - is horizontally oriented with bottom slightly thicker than the top. What is unclear is whether the device will support any kind of wide wireless area network (WWAN) support, such as 3.5G, 4G/LTE and so on.

At present it is expected that HP Slate 8 tablet will be released sometimes in the fourth quarter of the year after Microsoft Corp. finally releases its Windows 8 operating system. Unfortunately, its pricing is still unknown.

HP did not comment on the news-story.

A tablet is first about graphics and second about processing power, so HP should avoid another flop simply using an AMD solution.
