Nokia Corp. has introduced the industry’s first entry-level Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” smartphone designed specifically for developing markets, such as China, India, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. The Lumia 510 features Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 system-on-chip, 4” screen and will be sold for $199 without contracts or subsidies.

Nokia Lumia 510 is based on Qualcomm S1 800MHz system-on-chip with one ARM Cortex-A5/AMR 11 core, Adreno 200 graphics processor or with software 2D graphics engine. The smartphone has 256MB of RAM, 4GB of NAND flash storage and is equipped with Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n, GPS/AGPS, micro-USB, 3.5mm audio jack, 3-axis accelerometer and so on. Lumia 510 has 4 " capacitive LCD multi-touch screen with 800*480 resolution, 5MP back-facing camera with built-in autofocus and so on. Nokia Lumia 510 supports GPRS, EDGE/EGPRS, HSDPA, WCDMA. Nokia Lumia 510 smartphone features Unique Lumia experiences. Downloading the Camera Extras app provides digital lens functionality, Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Transport also offer comprehensive smartphone location and navigation experience available.

Bu releasing the Lumia 510, Nokia is attempting to popularize Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” smartphones in developing countries. While the idea is generally good – the company needs to promote its new advanced platform on growing market – the Lumia 510 may just be not the right product to do so. The device is relatively expensive for cost-sensitive markets, but at the same time it does not provide the up-to-date operating system (which is Windows Phone 8), and is based on a completely outdated system-on-chip.

The Nokia Lumia 510 will be available in red, yellow, cyan, white and black. Nokia estimates the retail price for the Nokia Lumia 510 to be around $199, excluding taxes and subsidies. Sales are planned to begin in November 2012, starting with India and China, and followed closely by other Asia-Pacific countries and South America.
