Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest maker of smartphones, has unveiled the Galaxy S4 Mini smartphone, which weds some of the cutting-edge capabilities of Galaxy S4 with minimum size. The company had to sacrifice performance and some other features in a bid to maintain the small size. Nonetheless, the product seems to offer everything that the latest version of Google Android has.

“We appreciate such unprecedented demands for the Galaxy S4 that we aimed to provide users with life companion for a fuller, richer and simpler life. And now, we want to give people more choices with Galaxy S4 mini, similar look & feel of Galaxy S4 for more compact and practical usages. The new Galaxy S4 mini provides consumers with a new way to enjoy the flagship Galaxy S4 experience,” said JK Shin, CEO and president of IT and mobile communication division at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-9195) is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor with two ARM Cortex cores that work at up to 1.7GHz as well as Adreno 305 graphics engine. The new smartphone from Samsung has 4.3 capacitive touchscreen with 960*540 resolution [240 pixels per inch density] and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Galaxy S4 features 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and can be equipped with 8GB flash storage as well as microSD memory card slot.

Samsung equipped its flagship Galaxy S4 mini model with 8MP main and 2.1MP front cameras, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), IR LED, multiple sensors (RGB light sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetic, proximity sensor), 1900mAh battery and so on. The S4 comes with Google Android 4.2.2 "Jelly Bean" operating system and supports all 2.5G, 3G, 3.5G (up to HSPA+ with 21Mb/s) types of networks as well as 4G/LTE where available.

The Galaxy S4 mini empowers users by keeping them up-to-date with personal health and well-being details. Downloadable from Samsung Apps, S Health enables users to monitor caloric balance and health condition. S Health accessories can also help users calculate daily steps, monitor sleeping patterns, calculate weight and get real-time heart monitoring. To further protect users’ wellbeing, Adapt Display provides an optimal viewing experience customized for each type of application, and Adapt Sound offers an optimal level and type of sound, personalized for each user.

The Galaxy S4 mini will be available in two colors, White Frost and Black Mist. Commercial availability of the Galaxy S4 mini supporting either 4G LTE, or 3G HSPA+ or 3G Dual SIM, will be determined by market.

When has 4.3" become "minimal size"? Can't wait until the Galaxy S7 Mini arrives at a minimal 6" size.
