Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest maker of smartphones, on Wednesday announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom, a powerful new device which combines the stylish heritage and capabilities of the latest Galaxy S4 smartphone with more than advanced photographic capabilities.

Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom is the realization of Samsung’s aim to create a single device that can fulfill the role of both an industry leading smartphone and a high-end compact camera. Combining 10x optical zoom, 16MP CMOS sensor, optical image stabilization and Xenon flash with the very latest Samsung Galaxy S4 technologies, the Galaxy S4 Zoom sets new standards for perfect mobile photography.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is powered by a dual-core Samsung Exynos 4210 or a Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor with two ARM Cortex cores that work at up to 1.50GHz clock-speed. The new smartphone from Samsung has 4.3” capacitive touchscreen with 960*540 resolution [240 pixels per inch density] and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The Galaxy S4 features 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and can be equipped with 8GB flash storage as well as microSD memory card slot.

Samsung equipped its Galaxy S4 zoom model with 16MP main camera with optical lenses, 1.9MP front cameras, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), IR LED, multiple sensors (RGB light sensor, geomagnetic, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor), 2330mAh battery and so on. The S4 comes with Google Android 4.2 "Jelly Bean" operating system and supports all 2.5G, 3G, 3.5G (up to HSPA+ with 21Mb/s) types of networks as well as 4G/LTE where available.

“As communication continues to become increasingly visual in nature, people wish to capture and share their moments in the highest quality possible, but often do not have the space or inclination to carry a dedicated camera for this purpose. The Galaxy S4 zoom changes this forever, combining the industry leading functionality and connectivity of the Galaxy S4 with the high quality photographic experience you’d expect from a compact camera. The result is truly the best of both worlds, without compromise,” said JK Shin, president and CEO, head of IT & mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be available in white color in the coming months. Actual configurations will vary depending on the region.

I'm sure it won't take long for the aftermarket suppliers to start making extreme edition outdoor cases, tripods etc for this.
It a natural progression from making smart cameras with the Android operating system.

I love how the Koreans love to copy everything the Japanese are producing. Sony, Sharp and Panasonic had those phone/camera mixtures for years now, hehe.

1. A delay when locking screen
2. A delay when unlocking screen
3. A delay screen rotation
4. A delay when controlling the volume buttons

So far here they are. I updated my s4 thru wifi using it and not Kies. So overall the update made some of my feautures or transitions to become slower.

So anyone? Hope samsung can fix and see this. I live in the Philippines btw.
