Lenovo Group, the world’s No. 1 supplier of personal computers, has quietly discontinued its IdeaPad Yoga 11 convertible laptop that is based on Windows RT. Currently the company only sells Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11s convertible ultrabook that utilizes Windows 8 Pro operating system. Lenovo becomes second vendor to discontinue a Windows RT-powered device.

A page on Lenovo's U.S. website states the IdeaPad Yoga 11 is no longer available online, but said consumers "may still buy this product from a Lenovo retailer or reseller". Nonetheless, partners like BestBuy also no longer carry the IdeaPad Yoga 11, reports ComputerWorld web-site. As it appears, Lenovo has simply discontinued its hybrid personal computer based on Nvidia Corp.’s Tegra 3 system-on-chip.

Currently, Lenovo and its partners only sell more advanced IdeaPad Pad 11s convertible ultrabook that is powered by advanced Intel Core “Ivy Bridge” microprocessors, solid-state storage as well as Microsoft Windows 8 Pro operating system. Just like its cheaper Yoga 11 brother, the convertible ultrabook features 11.6” multi-touch display with 1366*768 resolution.

Earlier this year Samsung Electronics discontinued its Ativ Tab Microsoft Windows RT-based media tablet in Europe. The company has never launched the product in the U.S.

Windows RT is a fully-fledged Microsoft operating system compatible with ARM-architecture application processors and incompatible with the vast majority of programs developed for Windows, something that clearly discourages anyone from using it. Given the fact that it carries Windows name, it confuses many buyers as people expect compatibility with their applications. Many PC makers, including Toshiba and Samsung, decided not to offer Windows RT-based devices early in the lifecycle of the OS so to avoid the misunderstandings. Microsoft is currently working hard to improve software support for the Windows RT platform.
