Apple on Tuesday announced iPad mini with Retina display is finally available. The new iPad mini brings all the pixels from the 9.7” iPad to its 7.9” screen, delivering razor sharp text and detail in a thin and light design. Earlier Apple did not disclose exact launch date of the iPad mini with retina display and only revealed that it the product would be available in November. 

Apple iPad mini with retina display shares the hardware with its older brother, the iPad Air. The new 7.9” slate with 2048*1536 resolution is based on Apple A7 system-on-chip (two custom ARMv8-compatible Cyclone cores, Imagination PowerVR series 6 “Rogue” graphics engine, 1MB of L2 cache and so on). The new iPad mini with retina also features the M7 motion coprocessor that gathers data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass to offload work from the A7 for improved power efficiency. The iPad mini with retina display got slightly thicker (7.5mm) and slightly heavier (331 grams - 341 grams), but the dimensions remained exactly the same. as in the case of previous-gen device.

Just like its bigger brother, the new “mini” features 802.11a/b/g/n/ Wi-Fi with two antennas to support multiple-in-multiple-out (MIMO) technology, bringing twice the Wi-Fi performance at data rate up to 300Mb/s. Cellular models also come with expanded 4G/LTE coverage to accommodate even more LTE networks worldwide, while continuing to deliver comprehensive support for other fast cellular technology around the world (DC-HSDPA, HSPA+).

The iPad mini with retina display has a new generation 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera with improved backside illumination sensors as well as back-facing iSight camera with 5MP sensor and advanced optics. The second-generation iPad mini also sports proximity and ambient light sensors, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, digital

iPad mini with retina display is available in silver or space gray. iPad mini with retina display Wi-Fi models cost $399 for the 16GB model, $499 for the 32GB model, $599 for the 64GB model and $699 for the 128GB model. iPad mini with retina display Wi-Fi + cellular models is available for a suggested retail price of $529 for the 16GB model, $629 for the 32GB model, $729 for the 64GB model and $829 for the 128GB model.


The original iPad mini is now offered at a more affordable price of $299 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model and $429 for the 16GB Wi-Fi + cellular model for either AT&T, Sprint or Verizon.

And those prices, especially $100 difference from the 16GB model to the 32GB model etc when the BOM cost only increases by $5
