Samsung Electronics traditionally releases its flagship Galaxy S smartphones in March-April timeframe every year and launches a teasing campaign several months ahead. This year the company remains quiet about its new top-of-the-range smartphone, but it claims that it will not only unveil it on time, but will also make it a breakthrough device and will even reveal new smart-watch along with the phone.

“We have been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time. When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved,” said Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business unit, in an interview with Bloomberg news-agency.

Although Samsung’s existing Galaxy S4 smartphone is among the best-selling handset from the company ever, its sales slowed after Apple introduced its iPhone 5S. Moreover, the S4 did not impress the owners of the S3 since the two were very similar from the outside. As a result, the Galaxy S5 is now very important for Samsung since with the new flagship smartphone Samsung will have to return the feeling of innovation to its consumers.

“When we moved to S4 from S3, it’s partly true that consumers could not really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn’t as big. For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover,” said Ms. Young Hee.

Modern smartphones are packed with features. It is hard to truly impress smartphone users nowadays. As a result, rumours about rather fancy technologies emerge just ahead of new smartphone launches. For example, some sources have indicated that the Galaxy S5 could feature curved wrap-around display along with eye-recognition technology. Obviously, Samsung remains tight-lipped over exact features of the Galaxy S5.

“Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology. We are studying the possibility but can’t really say whether we will have it or not on the S5,” said the executive from Samsung.

128gb phone thanks, That's before the micro sd card slot, I still want sd slot for another card.
Also better battery life, Rest of feature is garbage I will never use like now on my note 2.
Better reception,Battery and more space is all I want from any phone.

As long as it has a removable battery, I'll upgrade from my S4. A higher res and brighter display is always welcome, but I'm particularly interested in an optically stabilized camera.

Don't know where "the S4 did not impress the owners of the S3" comes from. I had a S3 too, and I liked that the S4 was the same familiar form factor, only better in every way internally. I also don't want metal if it compromises the radio signal quality or decreases the size / weight ratio.

Even if I currently have an Android phone, I still think the design of the latest iPhone is the best looking from all. Also the previous iOS6 not the 7th garbage was and still is one of the best mobile OS, way faster and stable than the latest Android version. However, because of small size, no SD card, no replaceable battery, shitty proprietary usb port and ubberly stupid system for the SIM card, I have decided not to buy it, and I will probably never will buy an iPhone. Ever.
