Last year VIA managed to sell about two million of CPUs to their clients who make cheap PCs, mobile computers and information appliances. Boasting with low price and low power consumption, VIA’s C3 chips are very competitive solutions on various market segments. On the other hand, C3 processors can offer very low performance, hence, they are not popular on desktop market at all.
The forthcoming Antar CPU is said to run at 900MHz and above, consume just about 10W of energy and cost 2/3 less than comparable Pentium M processor, as I read over DigiTimes. Unfortunately, the source has not shred any light on the performance Antar can offer and the timeframe when exactly the parts will be available.
