At CeBIT 2003 ATI Technologies today unveiled its new core-logic set previously known under the code-name RS250. The newcomer branded as RADEON 7000 IGP is a performance-enhanced version of the RADEON IGP 340M unveiled a year ago at CeBIT 2002. MOBILITY RADEON 7000 IGP is the first mobile IGP for Intel Pentium 4-M and Pentium-M processors to support PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory and 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus.
<%BANNER[article]%>The RADEON 7000 IGP utilises 64-bit system architecture and supports PC1600, PC2100 and PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory. In addition to 400MHz Quad Pumped Bus used by Pentium 4-M CPUs and Pentium-M processors, ATI RADEON 7000 IGP features 533MHz QPB for higher-end Pentium 4 and Pentium 4-M processors. The main feature of the novelty is RADEON 7000-like graphics core that includes ATI’s patented Fast Z-Clear technology, iDCT for improved DVD quality, TV-out functionality, HYDRAVISION dual-display support and other graphics features. ATI’s proprietary POWERPLAY technique prolongs battery life by using special methods of reducing power consumption of the notebook.
Like all members of the RADEON IGP family, RADEON 7000 IGP features ATI's exclusive FLEXFIT Universal Platform Architecture, which allows computer manufacturers to design user-upgradeable notebooks by offering a baseline platform and notebook add-in cards. ATI's pin and driver compatible lineup of mobile processors means that OEMs only need to design one motherboard and one add-in card for multiple product segments, and can then deliver user-upgradeability without requiring the user to install a new driver.
Generally speaking, the RADEON 7000 IGP is an interesting, but a bit outdated offering in terms of graphics features. Although most of you will not really need something more in your mobile computer, it is an indisputable advantage to have a powerful and fast graphics system even in the notebook to be able to play some games. Well, at least, I hope that MOBILITY RADEON 7000 IGP is a bit better compared to Intel Extreme Graphics 2 found in Intel’s 855GM chipset.
