We managed to find some interesting information about power consumption of the latest DirectX 9-supporting mobile graphics processing units from NVIDIA at this Japanese web-site. The information seems to be official, as the journalists from Tokyo claim that it was unveiled during a CeBIT presentation.

The GeForce FX Go5200 graphics chip consumes from “less than 1” to 6W of energy and is able to dynamically adjust core voltage from 1.2V to 1.45V. Its more powerful brother the GeForce FX Go5600 consumes about 1W in typical battery mode and more than 6W when loaded. It also scales its Vcore dynamically depending on the usage model via PowerMizer 3.0 technology.

ATI last week declined to comment about MOBILITY RADEON 9600’s power consumption in “performance mode”, but said that the processor consumes 0.5W when in idle mode. We suggest that ATI’s solution may be more economical in average.
