A little bit more than a week ago we reported that HP was going to launch a cheap notebook this quarter, following Dell Computer and ECS (see this news-story). Now I can share more details about the upcoming solution from HP, based on a story published by Dow Jones Newswires.
Apparently, there will be at least two models in the new inexpensive lineup: the Compaq Presario 2500 and 2100. Both will be configure-to-order and the lowest possible price for such computers will be $819. The cost is considerably higher than on offerings from Dell Computer and ECS, so, probably HP wants to offer higher performance and more capabilities with its products. For instance, as almost all present-generation Compaq Presario notebooks, the Presario 2500 will be equipped with wireless network 802.11g adapter. Both upcoming machines will be based on processors from Intel; we believe that HP will use Mobile Celeron processors based on the NetBurst architecture.
