Intel Delivers New and More Powerful Processors For Notebooks

With the announcement of Intel Pentium M processor the global largest chipmaker does not really have to worry about power consumption of its CPUs designed for full-size transportable notebooks. In order to make mobile computers even more powerful and feature-rich with performance close to desktop PCs, Intel unveiled new processors based on NetBurst architecture.

The new products include the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor, the last and final Mobile Intel Celeron processor 2.40GHz on the present core in addition to the Intel 852PM and 852GME chipsets. The Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processors offer frequencies up to 3.06GHz, power management features that enable lower thermals than its desktop counterpart, along with Intel design guidelines and testing, which enable more reliable system performance while maintaining low power-consumption and heat-dissipation.

The new core-logic launched by Intel will allow building new and more exciting mobile platforms. i852GM, the former Montara-GML, is developed for Intel Celeron and Pentium 4-M processors, supports 400MHz Quad Pumped Bus, AGP 2x/4x and power management features, including the EIST, Deeper Sleep, ACPI and so on. Like all mobile platforms from Intel this year, this one is to utilise the PC1600 and PC2100 DDR SDRAM. Integrated graphics core is present even despite of the fact that a lot of people will choose to have a separate graphics solution in their machines of this class. i852GME, a bit more advanced version of the previous core-logic set, supports 533MHz Quad Pumped Bus, Hyper-Threading technology and so on. Just like another chipset, this one has an integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 core.

Intel’s new Mobile Pentium 4 processors are not just conventional Pentium 4-M processors with higher performance and definitely not the so-called Pentium 4-C chips. The newcomers feature Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology and the only differences from the original Pentium 4-M CPUs is higher clock-speeds (and higher power consumption) as well as higher Quad Pumped Bus speeds.

Currently Mobile Pentium 4 processors does not support Hyper-Threading technology, though, Intel will implement it in the 3.06GHz and 3.20GHz models coming-out later this year. Read about it in April, 16, 2003 news-story.
