HP had adopted an array of graphics and system logic from ATI Technologies for its new cost-effective desktop replacement notebooks , the Markham, Ontario-based chip developer said Monday.
<%BANNER[article]%>Palo Alto, California-based HP today launched its new HP Pavilion zx5000 and zv5000 portable computers based on Intel Pentium 4 series processors. The machines feature 15.4” WXGA screens and are positioned more as portable systems for entertainment, rather than truly mobile systems for business, though, both PCs are equipped with batteries. HP will offer to install either MOBILITY RADEON 9200 or MOBILITY RADEON 9600 graphics adapters into the zx5000 and zv5000 computers.
Additionally, HP rolled-out another cost-effective machine with 15.4” screen and Intel Pentium 4 processors – Compaq Presario R3000 series – powered by ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP.
According to sources close to ATI, MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP, formerly code-named RC300M, is a version of the well-known RADEON 9100 IGP with DirectX 8.1 graphics core and single-channel DDR SDRAM memory controller. The MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP is designed to meet requirements of customers in budget who do not want to spend too much money on extra performance offered by the 9100 IGP part. The 9000 IGP builds-in everything typical end-users might need: 3D graphics and 2D graphics with dual-head configurations support, energy saving techniques as well as A-link to communicate with ATI’s IXP I/O controllers.
HP’s zx5000 laptop starts at $1100, zv849 is quoted from $849 (after rebate), Compaq Presario R3000’s lowest price is also $1100. All notebooks are shipping now.
