OCZ Technology, a leading supplier of premium memory and flash products as well as other computer gear, on Monday officially launched its Neutrino netbook aimed at “do-it-yourself” users who want maximum customization. While OCZ Neutrino does offer opportunities to tailor a netbook for personal needs, it offers little interest for multimedia and performance enthusiasts since it is based on the year-old first-generation Intel Atom platform.
OCZ Neutrino is powered by Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz) processor as well as Intel 945 GSE core-logic with integrated DirectX 9-class graphics core and DDR2 memory support. The laptop is equipped with 10.1” display with 1024x600 resolution, 1.3MP webcam with built-in microphone, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g controller and so on. The system comes with 4-cell 2200mAh battery, which should ensure slightly longer battery time compared to typical 3-cell batteries used on other netbooks.
The Neutrino DIY netbook provides opportunity to install up to 2GB of memory, a solid-state drive or a hard drive in 2.5” form-factor, a 4-in-1 card reader and so on. Unfortunately for multimedia enthusiasts, the system is powered by the first-generation Intel Atom platform and does not support DirectX 10-class graphics core. Moreover, some will find 1024x600 resolution insufficient. Still, there are customers who may like an idea of a DIY netbook with options to customize according to the needs.

End-users may either acquire the Neutrino barebone as well as necessary components separately from OCZ or may order factory assembly of the solution.
