Nvidia Claims It Has Nearly 40 Design Wins with Ion

Asrock and Pegatron Recruit Nvidia Ion for Nettops

Despite of slow start, Nvidia Corp.’s Ion platform seems to be gaining more adopters among computer makers, at least, according to the company itself.

 

Asrock, a subsidiary of Asustek Computer that specializes on cost-efficient hardware, and Pegatron Technologies, a contract manufacturer of electronics that belongs to Asustek, have demonstrated their nettops that are based on Nvidia Ion (GeForce 9400M) platform during a press conference held by Nvidia in Taipei, Taiwan. The company also announced it has rather massive amount of design wins with Ion.

According to Nvidia, there will be nearly forty Ion-based designs, including all-in-one personal computers, netbooks and nettops on the market in 2009, reports HKEPC web-site. So far, Acer Group has officially announced its Aspire Revo nettop based on Ion, whereas Asrock and Pegatron have openly confirmed that they have designed solutions powered by the platform.

Asrock Ion 330 is very similar to the NetTop S330 the company unveiled at CeBIT trade-show in early March. Asrock’s Ion 330 comes with dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor, Nvidia GeForce 9400M core-logic with integrated DirectX 10-class graphics core, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, 2.5” 160GB hard drive, 5.1 channel audio, DVD burner and so on.

Details regarding Pegatron code-named Cape 7 design, which comes without integrated optical disk drive, are unknown; however, they are not really important as Asrock does not sell anything under its own brand name and its customers will determine microprocessor, amount of memory and hard drive’s capacity based on their needs and positioning.

Nvidia GeForce 9400M is a single-chip core-logic with DirectX 10-compatible GeForce 9-class graphics processor inside that also supports dual-channel DDR3 memory, PCI Express 2.0 x16 and x4 links, Serial ATA, USB, Gigabit Ethernet and so on. As all modern Nvidia GeForce integrated graphics processors, the novelty features hardware-accelerated high-definition video decoding and post-processing as well as supports various outputs, such as dual-link DVI-I, D-Sub, DisplayPort or HDMI.
