IBuyPower, a leading maker of high-end personal computers for gamers, on Wednesday announced plan to bundle free netbook from MicroStar International (MSI) with select gaming personal computers (PCs). The move is likely to attract attention from students and other buyers in budget. Besides, it may become an interesting method of advertising.

Starting from Wednesday, IBuyPower will bundle free MSI Wind U100 netbook with select “Power Bundle” gaming rigs. The high-performance systems are based on AMD Phenom II or Intel Core i7 central processing units and feature ATI Radeon HD 4850/4890 or Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+/GTX 285 graphics cards and up to 12GB of DDR3 memory. Pricing of the gaming rigs varies from $1179 to $1849. Default configurations of Power Bundle computers are not optimal from some points of view, but end-users can customize them when they make their orders.

MSI U100 netbook is hardly something special: it is based on Intel Atom 1.60GHz processor, an Intel core-logic, is equipped with 1GB of memory, 120GB hard drive and features 10.1” screen with 1024x600 resolution.

IBuyPower positions its offering for those, who need to have both desktop and mobile personal computers. The company advices to buy a gaming PC with a netbook and take advantage of enhanced performance of its rigs as well as ultra-mobility of MSI netbooks. Obviously, the cost of the bundled netbook is “hidden” inside the price of the desktop system, however, the final cost may be substantially lower than the combind price of a desktop and a netbook bought separately.

“With a Power Bundle, users have more flexibility. Purchasing one laptop for both mobile and home use requires a sacrifice in both mobility and gaming power.  The lightweight netbook is more portable than a 17” desktop replacement, which can weigh as much as 20 pounds and is definitely not the ideal mobile solution for taking notes in class or studying in a coffee shop. Additionally, a traditional gaming PC offers a superior graphics, processing power, and upgradability to deliver a gaming experience that cannot be matched by any notebook,” the explanation by the company reads.

IBuyPower also offers customers the opportunity to upgrade to the 12.1” MSI U210 netbook, 13.4” MSI X320 or X340 ultra-slim notebooks, or the 16” CR600 notebook.
