Smartbook AG, a netbook vendor from Germany, has unveiled the world’s most glamorous netbook: Zenid GC Crystal. But while the device sports Swarowski crystals outside, the mobile computer itself is a simple generic China-made netbook with questionable quality of screen, Intel Atom and so on. Nevertheless, the price of the device is higher than that of high-end notebooks: €2001, or about $3000.

Smartbook Zenid GC Crystal is based on Intel Atom N280 processor that works at 1.66GHz and uses 667MHz processor system bus as well as Intel GN40 core-logic, a special version of Intel 4-series chipsets with DirectX 10-class integrated graphics core with reduced power consumption and new input/output controller. The device is equipped with 10.2” LED-backlit screen with 1024x600 resolution. The netbook also features 2GB of DDR2 memory, 320GB hard disk drive, 802.11b/g wireless network card, built-in 1.3MP webcam, high-def audio and so on. The system comes with Microsoft windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

As noted by Netbooknews.de, the system itself is a generic netbook produced by one of the Chinese contract manufacturers and can hardly offer anything truly special. In fact, the mobile computer even does not support Bluetooth and its weight of 1.4 kilograms is higher compared to fully-fledged high-quality ultra-thin notebooks.

Smartbook wants to position its Zenid GC Crystal as a luxurious device badly. Apart from Swarowski crystals on the cover, the company ships it with a bottle of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial “Be Fabulous Gold” Edition with Swarowski crystals on the box. The device itself, however, lacks high-end design, hence, will not be able to compete with luxurious notebooks from companies like Ego Lifestyle, some of which come with real diamonds.
