Apple Sells Four Million iPhone 4S Smartphones in Three Days

Simultaneous Availability on Different Markets Help Apple to Set New iPhone Sales Records

Apple on Monday said that it had sold over four million of its new iPhone 4S in just three days after its launch on October 14. Thanks to widespread availability of the iPhone 4S, Apple managed to sell over two times more new iPhones over the first three days of availability than last year with the launch of the iPhone 4.


“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.

Thanks for immediate launch of the iPhone 4S by three carriers in the U.S. as well as in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the U.K., Apple managed to take a million of pre-orders on its iPhone 4S in the first 24 hours and sell four million iPhone 4S units from Friday to Sunday.

In addition, more than 25 million customers are already using iOS 5 mobile operating system in the first five days of its release, and more than 20 million customers have signed up for iCloud, a set of free cloud services that automatically and wirelessly stores content in iCloud and push it to all devices. iPhone 4S is available today in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK, and will be available in 22 more countries on October 28 and more than 70 countries by the end of the year.

Apple’s fifth generation smartphone - the iPhone 4S - is made of glass and steel and sports 3.5” "retina" display with 960*640 resolution. The iPhone 4S is based on Apple A5 system-on-chip with two ARM Cortex-A9 cores with NEON SIMD accelerators, dual core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics adapter and some other advantages. The Apple iPhone 4S supports quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, quad-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA and dual-band CDMA/EV-DO and features up to 14.4Mb/s download speed and up to 5.8Mb/s upload speed. Apple iPhone packs an backside illuminated CMOS 8MP sensor with 3264*2448 resolution and a proprietary five element lens. The camera sports a large f/2.4 aperture, an advanced hybrid IR filter and 1080p HD video recording capability with image stabilization feature

 iPhone 4S comes in either black or white and will be available in the U.S. for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the new 64GB model. The iPhone 4S will be available from the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and through AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and select resellers.

 iPhone 4S will roll out worldwide to 22 more countries by the end of October including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
