German arm of Samsung Mobile this week began to send out fliers that invite journalists to an event, where it intends to introduce "a little sensation". Many believe that the company intends to introduce a new smaller-size high-end smartphone and the general consensus is that the handset will be nothing else but the Samsung Galaxy S III mini.

The invitation entitled as "That is how big small can be" carries large "S" letter on the background, which clearly points to the Galaxy S lineup of Google Android-based high-end smartphones. Since the flagship model of the company is currently called Galaxy S III, it is likely that the novelty will have similarities it, even though this is not cast in stone. The launch event is scheduled on October 11, 2012.

Specifications of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S III mini are unknown. The only thing clear is that it will naturally lose massive 4.8" screen with 1280*720 resolution for 4" screen. Technical specifications of the novelty should be more or less similar to the Galaxy S III so that advanced features of the flagship model could be retained. Therefore, quad-core system-on-chip, 4G/LTE, advanced cameras and sensors are fully expected.

Samsung did not comment on the news-story.

Samsung Galaxy S III is based on the company's own Exynos 4412 system-on-chip with four ARM Cortex-A9 cores as well as Mali 400MP graphics engine (the U.S. version is powered by dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4). The third-generation Galaxy S has 4.8" Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1280*720 resolution [306 pixels per inch, similar to Apple iPhone 4/5] and Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The flagship phone has 1GB of RAM and can be equipped with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of NAND flash storage.

Samsung equipped its flagship Galaxy S III model with 8MP rear and 1.9MP front cameras, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), accelerometer, RGB light, digital compass, gyroscope, barometer, 2100mAh battery and so on. As expected, the S III will come with Google Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" operating system and will support in all 2.5G, 3G, 3.5G (up to HSPA+ with 21Mb/s) types of networks and will also feature 4G/LTE where available.
