Qualcomm Introduces Already Available Technology

Qualcomm recently revealed a little-known technology which is designed to dramatically decrease the time it takes to charge the battery in a mobile device. The Quick Charge 1.0 battery management technology has been implemented into the company’s Snapdragon S4 system-on-chips and millions of people around the world can enjoy it.

 

Usually when Qualcomm talks about its technologies, it explains how it can delay a need for a battery charger. Usually, the company explains how Snapdragon processor is designed to consume very little power, and that a smartphone or tablet with a Snapdragon processor is designed to work more efficiently, reducing the need to recharge as frequently. Last week at HTC’s Frequencies event, the company’s chief marketing officer Anand Chandrasekher spoke with bloggers about a little-known Qualcomm technology which is designed to dramatically decrease the time it takes to charge the battery in a mobile device.

A phone with Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 power management technology can charge up to 40% faster than older phones. A phone without Quick Charge 1.0 could be stuck plugged in charging for more than four hours. With Quick Charge 1.0, the same phone can reach its full charge in three hours or less. Quick Charge 1.0 makes everything available to the user with existing USB charging accessories.

Quick Charge 1.0 is offered to Qualcomm’s customers as an integrated solution (as part of the PMIC, or power management integrated circuit) and a standalone solution that interfaces to the USB connector; essentially, any phone or tablet’s charging port can be enabled with Quick Charge.  

Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 is available today in more than 70 Snapdragon-based devices including the Droid DNA by HTC, Samsung Galaxy S III, Nokia Lumia 920, Asus Padfone and LG Nexus 4.
