Amazon Introduces Kindle Fire HDX Slates, Slashes Pricing of Previous-Gen Offerings

Amazon, the world’s largest online store, has introduced an all-new lineup of media tablets and also reduced prices of previous-generation products. The new slates not only bring-in higher performance, improved resolutions and richer capabilities, but they are also fix numerous drawbacks of the original Fire and Fire HD slates.

 

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX media tablets are based on the world’s highest-performing mobile application processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (four general-purpose Krait 400 cores, Adreno 330 graphics core, dual-channel LPDDR3/LPDDR2 controller) and are equipped with retina class multi-touch displays with 1920*1200 or 2560*1600 resolution. The new slates feature 2GB RAM; 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of NAND flash storage; 802.11abgn Wi-Fi; 720p HD front-facing camera; stereo speakers and so on. The premium Kindle Fire HDX 8.9” is even equipped with 8MP back-facing camera. Exact specs are listed below.

Kindle Fire HDX is powered by the newest version of Fire OS – Fire OS 3.0 “Mojito”, which introduces hundreds of new and upgraded features; Amazon-exclusive services; like X-Ray for Music, Cloud Collections, Goodreads, and more; platform updates and so on. Fire OS starts with Android and adds cloud services, a content-first user interface, built-in media libraries, productivity apps and low-level platform enhancements to integrate Amazon’s digital content and improve performance for Kindle Fire tablets. If an app runs on Android, it can run on Fire OS. The novelties also feature Mayday button that delivers revolutionary live tech support that connects users to an Amazon expert who can guide remotely through any feature, 24x7, 365 days a year, for free.

New enterprise features of FireOS 3.0 and Kindle Fire MDX include hardware and software-encryption, Kerberos intranet, secure Wi-Fi connections, VPN integration, and wireless printing.

The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9” frame is a single-piece of machined magnesium with a blend of glass and nylon molded onto the unibody to create openings for the antennas and maximize signal strength without sacrificing sturdiness. The result is the lightest large-screen tablet, at just 13.2 ounces (up to 384 grams), it is 34% lighter than the previous generation large-screen Fire HD tablet. The price of Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7” starts at $229. It is available for pre-order and it will begin shipping October 18. The lowest-priced Kindle Fire HDX 7” with 4G/LTE module costs $329, it will begin shipping November 14. Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9” starts at $379, it is available for pre-order starting today and it will begin shipping on November 7. The 4G of Kindle Fire HDX 8.9” version starts at $479 will begin shipping December 10.
