Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of Google, has introduced its new smartphone that boasts high-end functionality, but costs like an entry-level model. For $179 - $199, the handset offers quad-core application processor, large 720p display, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system and customization options.
Motorola believes that the smartphone industry has relegated hundreds of millions of smartphone buyers to second-class status, preventing them from experiencing the mobile Internet at its best. The subsidiary of Google claims that price-conscious consumers who do not want to pay $600 or more for high-end smartphones have been left with two bad options. The first is to buy cheap, new smartphones made with second-rate technology that do not support modern apps and experiences like navigation, video chat and games. The second is to buy “low cost” versions of premium products that were released two or three years ago and are already obsolete. Moto G is set to address those buyers thanks to the price between $179 and $199.
“Today we are introducing Moto G, a smartphone that delivers a premium experience for a third of the price of current high-end phones,” a statement by Motorola reads.
Motorola Moto G is based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 application processor (four ARM Cortex-A7 cores clocked at up to 1.2GHz, LPDDR2/LPDDR3 memory controller, Adreno 305 graphics engine) and is equipped with 4.5” display (1280*720 resolution), 1GB LPDDR3 memory, 8GB or 16GB of NAND flash, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac/a/b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth, USB and so on. The smartphone features 3G/HSPA+ and 4G/LTE. The smartphone is based on Google Android 4.3 “Jelly Bean” operating system with a guaranteed upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat at the beginning of 2014.
The Moto G also features stylish design with a comfortable curved back and 19 customization options, including interchangeable Motorola Shells and Flip Shells in seven colors as well as Grip Shells in five colors.
Moto G goes on sale this week in Brazil and parts of Europe and will be available within the next few weeks throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia. It will be available in the U.S., India, the Middle East and more of Asia in early January. Moto G will be in more than 30 countries with 60 partners by 2014.
In the U.S., Moto G will be sold on Motorola.com, with no contract, no SIM lock and an unlockable bootloader for $179 with 8GB of storage and $199 for 16GB. Moto G will also be available through various carriers and retailers.
