Approximately equal amount of X-bit labs readers web-site are looking forward to buy Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles. However, loads of personal computer enthusiasts are going to acquire neither of the forthcoming consoles, according to a recent poll by X-bit labs.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 seems to be a little bit more popular than Microsoft’s Xbox 360  among X-bit labs readers, who mostly come from the U.S. or Europe: 23% of the polled said they were going to acquire Sony’s game machine, while 20% said they were planning to buy Microsoft’s console, according to the poll. Only 5% indicated intention to get Nintendo’s Revolution device, which is due later than the new PlayStation and Xbox. About 46% of surveyed answered that they had no plans to get gaming machines at all.

The poll reflects that both Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles are very competitive in the eyes of potential buyers. At the same time, a huge amount of potential customers of Microsoft and Sony, who currently say that they have no objective to get a PlayStation or an Xbox, means that console makers have a large market to address with their marketing campaigns.

According to a recent survey in Japan, 60% of consumers claimed PlayStation 3 to be the most interesting among the next-generation consoles, 8% were looking forward Nintendo Revolution gaming machine and only 2% were to acquire Microsoft Xbox 360. About 30% could not decide.

Approximately 1500 readers of X-bit labs web-site, who are mostly English-speaking highly-educated computer enthusiasts, took part in the poll in mid-July.

I'm avoiding Xbox 360. (I'm in that transitional mood to avoid MS products as much as possible).

Besides, Sony wants PS3 to be able to run Linux on it!
(Rumours also say the possibility of Mac OS X being under consideration)...Either way, you still need to get a HDD for the console.

Still, at the end of the day, a good PC with Linux on it does me fine.

PS3 is way to expensive... i'm in college and no one is gonna be able to afford that when it comes out. No one our age at least. Maybe it will come out before 2008 so i'll still have a chance to play before i get a full time job. Xbox has got my vote, even though I've never owned one... i just can't afford the competition.

and yet the funny thing is... the Xbox is still dead last world wide, it has not passed the Gamecube in over all sales..

yet every single website and press publication is treating the failed original console as something special worth looking at.

Excuse me for a second, but hold up. You give the last place console what it deserves. Last place. You do not treat the second place console as the last place.

Knock off the wild hype please, and start giving credit where credit is due.

Want to talk about next gen? Fine. Lets talk Revolution and PS3. Get over it, the Xbox pulled a Dreamcast, end of story.
