Intel Corp. and Omnicom Media Group (OMG) on Monday announced that they would collaborate to develop “large screen advertising templates” for Internet-based broadcasters who deliver their content through media center computers powered by Intel Viiv hardware and software.
While the intention to create advertising templates may seem strange to those not familiar with media business, the idea itself may ignite a totally new way of broadcasting TV programs only available on channels broadcasted via the Internet. Advertising is usually the main source of income for media channels and having an appropriate way to transmit ads using the Internet may catalyze media companies to create Internet-based television, just like there are Internet-based radio stations today.
Intel Viiv hardware and software delivers a variety of entertainment content to the TV from the Internet and provides a foundation for interactive and highly targeted advertising in the living room. Creating such an environment will require the development and design of easily repeatable, user-interface advertising templates, which will help generate new business opportunities for advertisers and content creators alike.
“The effort will connect content owners and advertisers to advance how interactive, broadband-delivered advertising is best tailored to specific programming and audiences, and best presented on large screen sizes in TV-like ‘10 foot’ viewing environments,” a statement by Intel and OMG reads.
