Despite of the fact that it is less than two months left till the launch of the highly-anticipated PlayStation 3 game console, the gaming machine still does not seem to be mature enough an technical problems still exist, according to an analyst, who claims that the part operates with constant errors and had to be rebooted.
PlayStation 3 units on display at the Tokyo Game Show about 10 days ago operated erratically and had to be repeatedly reset, according to a report released Monday by Macquarie Equities analyst David Gibson in Tokyo, reports Toronto Star news-paper.
“While the reason for this is unknown, we suspect it may be due to overheating as a result of enclosing the units and the high temperatures at the venue. We are concerned that such a problem has occurred so close to full production and is clearly negative news for the company,” Mr. Gibson is reported to have written.
This is no news that game consoles may operate incorrectly due to various reasons. For example, late last year numerous users claimed that their Xbox 360 game console worked instably or even produced graphics artifacts. Microsoft said at that time that even there were quite a number of people unsatisfied with the quality, their relative number as a part of those, who acquired Xbox 360 was not high.
The main concern for Sony now is that the demo consoles crash just weeks before product launch, which may potentially delay the release or cause necessity to replace the faulty consoles eventually. Additionally, crashes further rise question whether picking up the leading-edge technology, such as Cell or Blu-ray, was the right decision for the PlayStation 3.
Sony PlayStation 3 console is based on the Cell processor developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba, the RSX graphics chip by Nvidia Corp. and will be equipped with Blu-ray optical disk drive, a hardware part, which is merely available today.

Hopefully for Sony and Sony Fans/People buying PS3s... that this was a rare issue and will not affect the launch consoles.
Otherwise... Sony has a lot of issues in general, and its going to cost them big time. I hope Sony doesn't have any batteries in the PS3 that makes them catch on fire :P.
I can see it now:
NEWSFLASH!: "Sony's PS3 contains exploding 'Coin' Batteries" (CMOS Battery :P).

Crazy? Are they technical professional analyst?
I think they are keen on making news only, or he or she is a 360 fans.
Just think about if you put your PC into a completely sealed plastic housing and display in a game show, I wonder if it will crash....LOL
A people have common sense should make a knowledge.

I hope you have enough common sense that Sony should of been SMART ENOUGH to test these consoles BEFORE showing them off. If you are honestly saying that PS3 *should of crashed* because it was a "PC [in] ... a completely sealed plastic housing" then you are insane. Obviously Sony engineers should of found a way to adequetly cool this console. (Assuming heat was the cause). And if it was the cause, then the engineers failed big time (or was forced to follow the Concept pictures/consoles shown by sony earlier, but are obviously not practical for cooling down the RSX and Cell Proc's).
And if you are actually talking about an actual Display Case/Kiosk (and not the console itself) then you are still insane. I've NEVER seen a Kiosk that is completely sealed (at least the ones Microsoft, GameCube and Sony distribute ~ Not Store/Chain created ones). They are normally designed with tons of extra breathing room and ventilation holes.
Either way I look at it, its Sony's fault.

Despite = Inspite
instably = unstably
unsatisfied = dissatisfied
further rise question = rise further question
Was this Xbitlabs article written by a thousand monkeys working on a thousand typewriters by any chance? Sure looks that way.

Why can't Sony be honest for once? Yea, it was hot in there, and sure the machines were in an enclosure, but the flawless Xbox 360's at the show were subject to the same circumstances. First Sony claimed that these problems occured because of the environment inside the show. Now a few days later they claim that this is news to them and this didn't even happen. Plus I have seen a couple pictures of the machines down with people installing fans to cool them. Sorry Sony but a picture is more reliable then your word.

Come on...this report is late. It's because of the heat. And this isn't a problem with the system. The systems where in a box ...so air flow wasn't the best and the show was hot itself. Do some research before you write!
