The demand towards PlayStation 3 game console may be softening in the U.S., another analyst said after checking retail stores and finding out that there are no Nintendo Wii game consoles in stock, but Sony PlayStation 3 are gaming machines are available.
“Our channel checks yesterday of 52 retail stores, from boutiques to big-box retailers, showed that 28 of the 52 stores had PS3 consoles in stock, while none had Wii consoles in stock,” American Technology Research analyst Paul-Jon McNealy said in the research note, Reuters news-agency has reported.
Nevertheless, he said that the stores – which included large and not very large – had units numbering in the low single digits, with only one major retailer having 60+ machines in stock.
Given that Sony’s PlayStation 3 costs $499 or even $599 depending on the version, there is no surprise that Nintendo Wii – which is also discussed and advertised widely – that costs $249 faces much higher demand, yet, amid much higher supply as well. Nevertheless, it is remarkable that the game console from the developer, which previous-generation gaming machine faced lukewarm welcome just several years ago, is so popular on the market that is heavily under attack by Microsoft and Sony.
Mr. McNealy said availability in stores of Sony’s PlayStation 3 game consoles does not necessarily indicate slack demand and that he would continue to monitor PS3 inventories closely. Still analysts in Japan and the U.S. have already warned about lowering demands towards the pretty expensive new-generation game consoles from Sony. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. claims that the demand is inline with expectations, but the supplies from the company are exceeding the demand.
“It isn’t because demand has weakened, it is because we have kept the supply pipeline moving,” Dave Karraker of SCEI is reported to have said.
NPD Research, an independent market tracking agency, recently indicated that back in December there were shipped 1.132 million Xbox 360 game consoles, 604 thousand Nintendo Wii game machines and 490.7 thousand Sony PlayStation 3 much-anticipated game consoles in the USA. The same market tracking agency revealed earlier that in November end-users acquired 195 thousand PlayStation 3 machines in the U.S. Thus, about 685 thousand of the PS3 game consoles were bought by end-users in calendar 2006 in the USA, starting from November 17, or about 115 thousand a week. Meanwhile, Sony made available over 140 thousand of PS3s a week on average in the first seven weeks of sales in the USA.

Their "channel" should've been a little more investigative during this search to gather accurate data. If you were to question any of those stores on how many PS3s they get in a week and how many Wiis they get in a week all would make much more sense.
What is actually happening here is that PS3s are literally flying out of the factories now that Sony straightened out all manufacturing issues. Nintendo on the other hand is mysteriously still having supply shortages. Strangely no one questions why they are still having shortages and why they had shortages in the first place, since the Wii is based on very accessible aged technology. Smooth production was supposed to be one of positives for this decision.
So to sum up my point. If you're in a Best Buy (or any electronics store) ask someone that's close to handling video games and their incoming shipments. You'll learn that PS3s are being delivered by the boat load multiple times a week and yes, Wiis are still only coming in a couple per week. I wouldn't challenge the fact that Wiis are super popular but I would like to congrat Nintendo on successfully pulling the strings so Wiis popularity seems to be 10 fold PS3s, when in actuality they're currently the same.

B. Shears - you're a delusional Sony fanboi. PS3's are sitting on the shelf due to lack of demand. Sony hasn't magically addressed their manufacturing issues. The Wii is far outselling the PS3 and has much greater demand than the PS3. This is true in North America, true in Japan and true in the PAL regions. When the PS3 finally launches in Europe, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lukewarm reception. To suggest that Nintendo is intentionally throttling back supply to create an artificial shortage to generate hype is, well, really stupid.

Yeah, an artificial shortage would be really stupid. Don't they want profit? When the PS3 first came out, I heard that people got shot and stabbed over getting one. I think that there was way more demand right after launch, and the demand kept weakening as it got longer after launch. And I also say that people keep thinking that the PS3 is competing with the Wii after it came out. The Wii is the most different system in the world than the PS3. Everybody forgot that it's actually competing with the Xbox 360.

That so called NPD Research still ignored the fact that Sony decided to allocate certain among of PS3 stocks to Hong Kong and Taiwan. It is known that more than 20 thousands of PS3 stocks were allocated to Hong Kong and Taiwan alone.
HONG KONG AND TAIWAN are also included in the list of PS3's Nov 17 launch. I have no idea why so called a "market analyst" can ignore such a huge fact. It shows that their research has poor accuracy and the statisc is not reliable at all.
I have no idea why so call a "professional technology media" Xbit Labs can always quote data from such an inaccurate "market analyst". It shows that Xbit Labs is completely "Anti-Sony" from her 1st point of view!
Please notice that in Japan, PS3's sale on her 1st launch day already surpassed 360's annual sales in the same market already. Sony only need 1 day to KO M$'s 1 yr effort.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong and Taiwan, Wii is always full of stocks and PS3 always in shortage.

Wow... more stupidity. Face it, X-bit labs doesn't have an anti-Sony bias, reality does. The PS3 is floundering, period. Sending 20k units to Taiwan and Hong Kong doesn't mean squat. Remember, Sony delayed launching into Europe to ensure stock for the other regions, only to see units sitting on the shelves shortly after launch. That's not good. And beating the X-Box 360 in Japan is no accomplishment, I think the Wonder Swan may have pulled that off in the past. When you look at sales numbers (not the BS "shipment" numbers Sony likes to quote), you'll see that in every region, the PS3 is getting trounced. People are embracing the Wii and mostly can give a rip about the PS3. For people who want HD graphics, media center abilities, etc... the XBox 360 represents a better value, and has more/better games to play. Simply put, there's no room for the PS3 for most consumers, hence the slack demand.

this persons scam do not order from her i have send her 450usd for 2 phones and she has never send me my phones ever....... Promised 48hr delivery and after i send her the money she tried to scam me even more by telling me to send 200usd more cause an extra phone is in the box and they have stopped shipping.
