OCZ Technology Group, the company primarily known for its memory modules and other types of computer components, on Monday released its keyboard that features programmable keys with OLED screens inside. The Sabre keyboard is primarily aimed at gamers.

“The OCZ Sabre keyboard offers the best of both worlds when it comes to OLED technology and a truly functional yet affordable gaming keyboard. With nine dedicated OLED keys, the Sabre is able to leverage both the infinite customization benefits of the technology with the reliability and feel of a high-quality gaming keyboard, making for the ultimate all-in-one solution,” commented Eugene Chang, vice president of product management at the OCZ Technology Group.

The nine dynamic OLED (organic light emitting diode) user-programmable hotkeys help manage time and efficiency while surfing the web, gaming, emailing, and CAD applications or any avenue the user sees fit. The unique OLED keys can convert any digital image or text into distinctive icons, reminding the user of the personalized shortcut. The keyboard is equipped with 128MB of internal storage and is compatible with USB 2.0 bus.

The OCZ Sabre features an ergonomic design and construction with keys lasting over 5 million cycles (for keys without screen) and will remain comfortable even through prolonged usage with its clean layout, tilted design, and superior tactile feedback, according to OCZ.

Even though OCZ supplies Saber under its own brand, the device was likely developed by United Keys company and is produced at manufacturing capacities of Foxconn Electronics. It is interesting to note that United Keys declares 3 million lifecycle for standard keys, 1 million lifecycle for its OLED keys and 40 thousand hours lifetime for OLED screens (1666 days or 4.5 years). Meanwhile, OCZ claims that its keyboard has adjustable keys, whereas United Keys’ device does not.

OCZ has not revealed pricing of its Saber keyboard. Meanwhile, United Keys sells its OLED Display Keyboard for $259.
