Even though Sony Computer Entertainment’s motion sensing game controller is due in spring 2010, the company starts to provide samples of the devices only now. Moreover, even executives for Sony do not know how many game titles will be available at the launch of the device. Nevertheless, the company is rather optimistic about the future of its product.

“One of the aspects of the way we work is we tend to bring out prototypes early on and work with game teams - our own studios, external studios  and get their feedback. We're really in that phase where we're working with people to see what they want, so that when we have a final product it's actually going to meet the game designers' needs. … […] To be honest, I don't know [how many games for the controller are in development right now],” said Paul Holman, SCEE's vice president of research and development, in an interview with Eurogamer web-site.

Sony unveiled its long awaited motion sensing game controller at E3 show in early June. Sony’s motion sensing controller features a special light located on top and works in collaboration with Sony’s updated Toy camera. Even though the original EyeToy has been criticized for its limitations, when the new Toy device is used with the new controller, the accuracy of the controls is super-accurate, according to Sony. Obviously, Sony has provided appropriate software development tools to utilize the motion-sensing game controllers to interested parties. However, without actual devices the development and testng will take a lot longer.

In spite of the fact that not a lot of game developers can use the motion sensing controller now and it is rather uncommon for video game console developers to introduce new compulsory controllers after the console is released, Sony implies that there will be titles that rely on the motion sensing device at least quite heavily.

“This stuff is super-accurate and the impact of that is incredible. I think you have to play with it to realise what it will do to games,” added Mr. Holman.
