Roughly about two years after Amazon, the world’s largest online store, launched its Kindle e-book reader in the U.S., the company announced international version of the device, which will be available in over 100 countries.

“We have millions of customers in countries all over the world who read English-language books. Kindle enables these customers to think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds,” said Jeff Bezos, chief executive officer of Amazon.

Amazon Kindle e-book reader that will be available globally measures by 8” x 5.3” x 0.36” (203.2mm x 134.6mm x 9.1mm), weighs 10.2 ounces (289.2 grams), features black and white 6” screen with 600x800 resolution, 1.4GB of free flash memory for books or news-papers (SD port also available) and up to 4 days of battery life with wireless connectivity on. The device features 3G/EDGE/GPRS connectivity to download the content everywhere.

Kindle customers can wirelessly shop the Kindle Store, download or receive new content – all without a PC, Wi-Fi hot spot, or syncing. However, it is impossible to browse the Internet using the device.

The Kindle Store offers international customers over 200 thousand English-language books, including New Releases and New York Times Bestsellers, which are typically priced less than physical editions. Over 85 top U.S. and international newspapers and magazines are also available in the Kindle Store for single purchase or subscription. 

The international version of Amazon Kindle will cost $279. The device will begin shipping on the 19^th of October.
