Razer, a leading maker of high-precision mice and advanced gaming hardware, on Thursday announced the release of the Razer Ouroboros. The elite ambidextrous gaming mouse not only supports fourth-generation dual sensor system with 8200 dots per inch (dpi) precision, but also sports fully-customizable ergonomics that are adjustable for any hand size and grip style. The mouse sets a new benchmark not only in terms of usability and precision, but also in terms of price.

“Designed for excellence and total ownage, the Razer Ouroboros was intended to be wielded by all serious gamers looking to win any FPS, RTS or RPG with custom-made dominance,” said Robert “RazerGuy” Krakoff, president of Razer USA.

Razer Ouroboros features enhanced sensor technology capable of up to 8200 dpi, and a dedicated, built-in dpi clutch trigger button ensures players can achieve pinpoint precision when needed.  The Ouroboros also features 1000Hz  polling with 1 ms response time to provide very precise and smooth operation of the mouse using wireless technology, up to 200" per second (or 50G acceleration), eleven programmable Hyperesponse buttons as well as supports Razer Synapse 2.0. Powered by a single rechargeable AA battery, the Razer Ouroboros ensures a minimum of twelve hours of gaming.

Approximate Sizes:
Length: 116mm to 136 mm/4.57" to 5.35"
Width: 71mm/2.80"
Height: 42mm/1.65"

Approximate Weight: 115g/0.25lbs. (without battery) to 135g/0.29 lbs. (with battery)

No two people have the same sized hands, and everyone grips his or her mouse differently. When researching form factor preferences for ambidextrous mice, Razer’s team of ergonomic scientists and engineers discovered three key factors in design: the length of the mouse, the back arch and the grip profile.  With this in mind, the Razer Ouroboros is designed for precision gaming, with an adjustable palm rest capable of moving up to 0.9" (20 mm), suitable for people of varying hand sizes.

The Ouroboros additionally boasts two interchangeable side panels for altering the footprint of the mouse to suit claw, palm or hybrid grip styles, and it has an adjustable back tilt angle to ensure palm support for gaming comfort and endurance.

“We are proud to introduce it as Razer’s first gaming mouse that features optimized, customizable, ambidextrous ergonomics that better fit the curvature of any and every hand size and personal grip style by delivering ultimate comfort, control, power and built-in intelligence to ascend to gaming immortality,” added Mr. Krakoff.

Razer Ouroboros will become available sometime in the fourth quarter of 2012, in time for the holiday season. The mouse will cost $129.99 in the U.S. and €129.99 in Europe, setting a new milestone in the recommended prices on advanced mice.

Razer traditionally names its products after snakes. The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent eating its own tail, which symbolizes self-reflexivity or cyclicality. In case of Razer's mouse, the name points to ambidextrous nature of the device.

Can't they just design a mouse without gimmicks? I'm guessing everyone who wanted a R.A.T. already bought one.

Agreed. First thing I thought when seeing this mouse "hmmm, that looks just like a R.A.T.".

btw, I'm sitting here with my DeathAdder which I like a lot. Those gimmicky mice are way too expensive for my taste anyway, I can't justify spending over $100,- on a simple mouse.
