Sony Computer Entertainment denied plans to block usage of second-hand games on its next-generation PlayStation 4 video game system. Previously it was believed that Sony and Microsoft intend to tie every single copy of a game to a particular PlayStation Network account, which will eliminate the market of pre-owned games.

“They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that is my expectation… Used games can play on PS4,” said Shuhei Yoshida, the head of Sony Worldwide Studios, in an interview with Eurogamer web-site.

Considering the fact that Sony PlayStation 4 is incompatible with games developed for PlayStation 3 and in order to play older games Sony’s customers will have to rely on cloud services, blocking usage of second-hand games could harm PS4’s name among loyal Sony gamers too seriously.

Earlier it was reported that Sony will provide a digital copy of games with each PS4 title purchase in retail, which may be a good news for those, who are afraid of damaging discs. The company might tie each copy of a game to individual PlayStation Network (PSN) account, which might draw discs useless beyond the original owners.

Media reports claim that Sony will release only one PS4 model at launch with 500GB hard disk drive, but it is also expected that over time the company intends to make a cost-efficient console with NAND flash-based storage.
