Amazon stores around the world have started to list Microsoft Corp.’s next-generation video game consoles on their web-sites with proposals to notify once Xbox One becomes available. Moreover, Amazon stores in Germany and France have actually started to take pre-orders on the systems with guaranteed price of whopping €599.

Amazon.de and Amazon.fr currently offer to order the Microsoft Xbox One game console at pre-order price guarantee of €599, which means that in case the system ends up being more expensive than €599, the stores will charge the pre-order price; in case Microsoft Xbox One will be less expensive, Amazon will charge the lowest price. While the price currently serves as a place-holder, usually Amazon’s guaranteed prices are not too far off from the official prices.

While the price of €599, which will likely transform into $599 in the U.S., for Xbox One seems to be too high, it may actually seem realistic. The new Xbox is a state-of-the-art PC with cloud and online services, premium controller and very advanced second-generation Kinect motion sensor. Given the fact that Microsoft wants to position Xbox One as the only box needed in the living room, the price of €599/$599 may be real.

Still, at present it is too early to think about pricing of Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4. Both companies are going to learn about actual manufacturing costs of consoles in mass production as well as yields of chips and mainboards in the coming weeks, crucial information that will influence their decisions about the retail prices. In addition, both companies will look at each other’s prices and will attempt to make a more valuable offering to customers. Previous rumours already suggested that both PS4 and Xbox One will end up at $499 or higher.

Microsoft Xbox One is based on AMD Fusion custom-designed system-on-chip with eight x86 low-power/low-cost Jaguar cores, AMD Radeon HD graphics with GCN architecture (with 32MB ESRAM/EDRAM buffer) as well as 8GB of DDR3 system memory. The console features 500GB hard disk drive, Blu-ray disc drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity,  output of video with up to 4K resolution (3840*2160) using HDMI 1.4 as well as 7.1-channel audio. The new Xbox One comes with completely redesigned Kinect sensor that will feature 1920*1080 RGB camera, improved infrared sensor and enhanced voice controls. The console sports a number of functions, e.g. TV-cable pass-through that will seamlessly integrate it into the living room.

Microsoft Xbox One is expected to hit the market in October, 2013. Pricing is not known, but it is not expected to be affordable.

Microsoft did not comment on the news-story.

State of the art huh. An 8 core budget jaguar processor and 8gb of GDDR3 ram with a an 500gb HDD, is state of the art? Yeah, maybe if this was back in 2006.

But seriously not everyone wants a kinect with voice activated multimedia functions in their console. So microsoft should not bundle all this into one system and charge a 600 dollar flat rate for it, but instead have diff types of system bundles starting out at 400 dollars for the basic system that comes with an 120gb hard drive, no Kinect, one wireless controller and an headset.

I mean, my room has too much stuff in it to play Kinect in the first place and I still prefer a good old controller over anything else. I don't need a 500gb hard drive hell I still have 30gbs left on my 80gb hard drive on my 360. An 120gb hard drive would be all I need.

Lastly, I don't need another multimedia device i already have a smart 3d TV, an HD DVR and a blu ray player and that's plenty for me. So anything that the xbox one has for multimedia would be useless to me when I can do everything I can now multimedia wise that the xbox one can do.

Lacking perspective?

In a 100W package for the whole system, no such product existed back then. Don't just ignore the fact that whoever this machine is meant for, they aren't anything like us, so don't use what you're used to as a reference.

Besides, I'm sure the price is not MSRP, rather a pre-order at a random store.

Also, this isn't just about the hardware specs. People who get consoles, tablets and smartphones are all about what they do on the machine, the software and ease of use; they couldn't care less for the specs or what it means to people like us. They aren't PC enthusiasts, we can't use our logic to explain any of this. Doesn't matter that the CPU is x86, it is not a PC.

the article states state of the art as in when people state such a claim it means top of the line and the xbox one is furthest from the top of the line as far as hardware.

what are you talking about no such product exist back then? are you saying there was no GDDR3 on gpus or 500gb hard drives back in 2006? and the 8 core jaguar it has in it now would be as good as a core 2 quad q6600 or maybe even a little slower and as far as this 100w package you are referring to it goes beyond the 100w spectrum so I dont' know where you got that from.

That's not true comparing a console to a smart phone or a tablet is apples and oranges consoles were designed for gaming tablets and cell phones aren't designed around gaming there is a big diff. so to say people that play consoles don't care about the specs is not true or else we would be stuck with the original xbox and ps2 right now still if no one cared about specs.

actually PS4 already won the race against Xbox one in gaming ground. coz PS4 have much powerful GPU than xbox one, also ps4 have HSA which reduces latency. last time xbox 360(240Gflops) have better gpu than ps3(176 Gflops). and firstly they are gaming consoles...right

also the ps4 has no expencive 32 MB ESRAM on chip. so there chips is smaller.

the ESRAM can give advantage but its harder to use and 32 Mb isn't much. the bandwidth of the ddr3 will be another problem. so the ps4 is better designed because they kept it simple.

600 Euros? You can't be serious Microsoft. The impoverished Europeans ain't gonna outlay that much for this. Sony will no doubt undercut that - I believe $400 USD is reasonable - ie a $50 profit on each console. It shouldn't cost more than a netbook.

if sony sells the ps4 for 500 dollars, a 100 dollars cheaper, then the xbox one is going to be off to a rough start right out of the gates. This price just adds another compelling reason to go with sony over microsoft
