As demand for current-generation game consoles and video games is getting weaker, early demand for Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 in the United Kingdom is record setting, according to Blockbuster Entertainment retail chain. Given the fact that core gamers got very excited by presentations of the PS4 and Xbox One, it is not surprising that they are pre-ordering the systems these days.

“In the wake of Xbox One’s record-breaking pre-order success at Blockbuster last month, the PS4 has received the same incredibly positive reaction, proving that the gaming industry is booming. We are absolutely thrilled with the amazing response to our pre-order service for both the PS4 and Xbox One,” said James Morton, head of product at Blockbuster Entertainment, reports VG247 web-site.

It is not a secret that early adopters of new gaming platforms are the so-called core gamers, some of whom even own more than one game consoles. Since the number of such avid gamers is slowly increasing, it is not a surprise that the pre-orders on the Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 are very high these days. What remains to be seen is how high the demand will be when the consoles actually hit the market and will start to address mainstream gamers, who are migrating to various mobile gadgets these days.

“We are looking forward to seeing the brand new consoles in our stores along with the latest games to buy or rent. 2013 has been a fantastic year for gaming at Blockbuster and its set to only get better following the announcements at E3,” added Mr. Morton.

Both Microsoft’s third-generation Xbox as well as Sony’s PlayStation 4 are based on semi-custom AMD Fusion system-on-chips with eight Jaguar general-purpose x86 cores, AMD Radeon HD GCN architecture-derived graphics processors and other special-purpose hardware units. Both consoles have 8GB of RAM, hard disk drives as well as Blu-ray disc drives.

The Xbox One launch bundle – which includes Xbox One console, wireless gamepad, Kinect 2 motion sensor and possibly something else – will be available for $499.99 in the U.S., £429 in the U.K. and €499 in European markets. The console will be released in 21 markets around the world in November 2013. When the PlayStation 4 will become available this year, it will be sold at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $399, CAD$399, €399, and £349 in respective regions. Sony's PS4 comes without any sensor. The new PlayStation Camera should be acquired separately for $59.

haha XB1 fail, also overpriced by about $150-200. There is no way a console saddled with DRM, ludicrous policies on used games and internet connection, that is non-upgradable and is 50% less powerful should cost $100 more than PS4.

If Kinect was a selling feature, where was a killer Kinect app at E3? I guess MS knows it has enough brain-washed US fanboys to throw $500 at an inferior console because they love COD DLC!

For a PC gamer, XB1 is now even more irrelevant.

You're really stupid.

They have the same processor, at best, for the Xbox One. It is rumored that the PS4 might have its running at 2GHz while the Xbox's runs at 1.6Ghz.

And the GPU in the PS4 is AT LEAST 50% more powerful [1.8+TFlops vs 1.2+Tflops compute]

And the PS4 has much faster memory, as well as having more allocated to games [Xbox has 3GB allocated to OS/Media, PS4 is unknown, but less of its 8GB is wasted]

So you read the specs first.

Any sales per-orders break records as there are none for these. A sale or a per-order of 1 breaks the existing record of 0 NIL. Please think what or how one reports marketing blurb from sales staff. The chap at Blockbuster should be schooled in facts versus fiction.
