Two influential Microsoft Corp.’s employees have revealed that Xbox One pre-orders have sold out across the U.S. and that they are also well ahead of pre-orders on Xbox 360 during the same period. It looks like the Xbox One is going to be a success at launch, at least from Microsoft’s point of view. Unfortunately, the execs did not reveal any particular numbers.

“Just found out Xbox One pre-orders are trending ahead of Xbox 360 pre-orders during the same time period [and are] sold out at most U.S. retailers,” said Larry Hryb, Xbox’s director of programming for Xbox Live, in a Twitter post.

While Microsoft Xbox 360 was the first current-generation console launched in 2005, a year ahead of Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, it inherited the rather poor reputation of the original Xbox, hence early interest towards the console was limited. Moreover, back in 2005 online pre-orders were not as popular as they are now, therefore it was easy for Xbox One to get significantly ahead of its predecessor on the Internet.

A similar tweet has been published by Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s chief of staff for devices and studios.

“Xbox One pre-orders are already sold out at most major U.S. retailers, also trending above [Xbox] 360 historical levels,” Mr. Greenberg wrote.

Without giving exact number of game Xbox One consoles pre-ordered, Microsoft updated the interested parties, which includes gamers, analysts, investors, game developers and others, that the demand for the upcoming system is healthy. Nonetheless, the intrigue remains whether Microsoft Xbox One will be more successful than Sony PlayStation 4 at launch and which of the companies will be able to ship more units in the first month of availability.

Microsoft Xbox One is based on AMD Fusion custom-designed system-on-chip with eight x86 low-power/low-cost Jaguar cores, AMD Radeon HD graphics with GCN architecture (with 32MB ESRAM/EDRAM buffer) as well as 8GB of DDR3 system memory. The console features 500GB hard disk drive, Blu-ray disc drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, output of video with up to 4K resolution (3840*2160) using HDMI 1.4 as well as 7.1-channel audio. The new Xbox One comes with completely redesigned Kinect sensor that will feature 1920*1080 RGB camera, improved infrared sensor and enhanced voice controls. The console sports a number of functions, e.g. TV-cable pass-through that will seamlessly integrate it into the living room.

The Xbox One launch bundle will be available for $499.99 in the U.S., £429 in the U.K. and €499 in European markets. The console will be released in 21 markets around the world in November 2013.

I've heard that they didn't sell xbox 360 pre-orders until november from tom's hardware.

So technically yes they did sell more than the 360 during this time(> 0 lol). But yes this is more BS from microsoft to increase share price. If I was a MS shareholder, I would sell their crap stock. The company is continuously trying to mislead shareholders by outputting skewed facts.

Investing in growing stock prices based on untruths isn't a wise strategy.
I'd rather the Company growth and income were the deciding factors.

That was my intial thought too, and it still is.

No they aren't. I already busted this one apart on G+

I also slammed Kyle over at Arstechnica in his own thread:

The short, short, short, short version is this: If we assume that Microsoft and Sony issued identical allotments of consoles to retail partners on the idea of a 3 month build-up of 1,000,000 consoles monthly excluding a two or three month ramp up, the Playstation 4 blasted it's allotment in 3 days. It took Microsoft over a month to manage the same

However, Microsoft's figures are skewed by production figures. The console is not yet in full factory production. Just less than two weeks ago ODM's were still submitting bids to make the console.

We also know from today's financials that Microsoft got very quiet on pre-order numbers. We also know that Sony got very loud that they were having to adjust expected sales UP based on pre-order numbers.

The conclusion then is this: No, the Xbox One is not selling that well on pre-orders. No, the Xbox One has not surpassed the number of Xbox 360 pre-orders. Yes, Microsoft is once again LYING just like it did all the way up until the $900 MILLION dollar write-off on the SurfaceRT.

Ballmer pre-ordered the only one available and that was the demo.

- Non-upgradable/non-swappable internal HDD + requirement to install all games onto that small 500GB slow drive

- 50% slower GPU means PS4 will have the best looking 1st party games and 3rd party titles would run best on PS4

- Inefficient OS that sucks up 3GB of RAM -- Respawn Entertainment has been very clear and vocal about how the 5GB of RAM allotted for gaming on the Xbox One has already caused issues in development of TitanFall.

- $100 more expensive than PS4

- Always on Kinect that watches you

- More expensive Xbox Live Gold, and XBLG is required for Netflix

- Non friendly business practices for Indie developers mean the best indie games will be on PS4

- PSN+ will have more free perks (games) than XBLG

- Region locked!!

- Exclusives? If PS2 vs. original XB and PS3 vs. 360 are anything to go by, PS4 will win here too.

Why would anyone pay $100 more for the XB1 than PS4? It's like getting a PS4 + nearly 2 free games vs. just XB1....No thanks MS.
