Microsoft Corp. announced on Tuesday that its upcoming Xbox One game console had entered mass production and that it was on-track to be released in November this year on select markets. The company also announced that it had increased clock-speed of microprocessor inside the system-on-chip that powers Xbox One.

“We are on track for launch in November, we will announce the launch date shortly. We recently just went into full production, so we are now producing Xbox One consoles [in mass quantities]. We have had real good progress on the system; in fact, we just updated the CPU performance to 1.75GHz on top of the graphics performance improvement, so the system is really going to shine and the games look pretty incredible,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy of interactive entertainment business, at Citi Global Technology Conference.

Previously, system-on-chip inside Microsoft Xbox One console had its general-purpose AMD Jaguar x86 cores operating at 1.60GHz, whereas graphics processing engine worked at 800MHz. In the recent months Microsoft and AMD managed to increase GPU clock-rate to 853MHz and CPU frequency to 1.75GHz. Higher clock-speeds should increase performance and eventually enable better video games.

According to Mr. Mehdi, Microsoft plans to build a record number of Xbox One game consoles for the launch this November and sell the highest amount of new consoles during the holiday season.

Microsoft Xbox One is based on AMD Fusion custom-designed system-on-chip with eight x86 low-power/low-cost Jaguar cores, AMD Radeon HD graphics with GCN architecture (with 32MB ESRAM/EDRAM buffer) as well as 8GB of DDR3 system memory. The console features 500GB hard disk drive, Blu-ray disc drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, output of video with up to 4K resolution (3840*2160) using HDMI 1.4 as well as 7.1-channel audio. The new Xbox One comes with completely redesigned Kinect sensor that will feature 1920*1080 RGB camera, improved infrared sensor and enhanced voice controls. The console sports a number of functions, e.g. TV-cable pass-through that will seamlessly integrate it into the living room.

The Xbox One launch bundle will be available for $499.99 in the U.S., £429 in the U.K. and €499 in European markets. Microsoft Xbox One in November on 13 markets, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand.

Microsoft spokesman "We have increased the frequency of the graphics by putting a blowtorch to Ballmer's ass". Unfortunately, it won't be enough to outshine Sony's superior design choices. I'm sure AMD engineers don't give a f**k either given what the WinTel monopoly did to the company over many years. Karma.

No stacked GPU ???

Nice to see further improvements to XBone because of Sony's pressure. Got to love competition.

PS4 is more powerful than XBOX 1 officially confirmed by microsoft-
MS officially said that it boosted cpu+gpu clock means if xbx1 is more powerful than ps4 then there is no need to boost, right so other case is if performance difference is minor than also no need to boost also correct,
so finally boosted clock means compition(ps4) is so much powerful that MS is bound to overclock xbx1.

It's not your fault, and basically OT, but I hate XBO, Xbone and xbx1 as expression for the new xbox. Especially one or 1 is so misleading considering there was already a first xbox That thing needs a better name...

How about...expensive media centre?

The fact that both the CPU and GPU frequencies have been increase while staying within the thermal envelop originally specified means AMD's custom APUs are Fab'ing out better than expected, which is good news for all AMD consumers.

That's a good spin - but knowing it's Microsoft, we might see a return of the Red Ring of Death. You can't tune a Ford Mustang to match a Ferrari.

and yet they are still stuck with the bottlenecking 8gb DDR3. furthermore those are what you would call in the overclocking world miniscule. I bet sony overclocks theirs too just for the hell of it. lol
