Nvidia Corp. on Monday initiated yet another campaign aimed to popularize its Shield game console as well as GeForce GTX graphics cards. The company offers customers $50 - $100 discounts when they purchase a graphics adapter and a gaming console. In addition, the company sells Shield at a $50 price cut.
Starting immediately, select stores in the U.S. offer combos consisting of a qualifying GeForce GTX graphics card, a Shield game console as well as three latest Ubisoft games (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman Arkham Origins and Splinter Cell: Blacklist) with a $50 - $100 discount depending on the bundle. Those, who already have GeForce GTX graphics adapters, Nvidia’s partners can sell Shield with $50 off.
Nvidia’s new campaign is designed to further bridge PC gaming with living room gaming and Google Android gaming since Shield can stream PC games to large-screen TVs using Miracast technology.
It is rumoured that Nvidia’s second-generation Shield is just a number of month away and that it will be based on fifth-generation Tegra application processor which will boast Kepler-class graphics engine and therefore much greater performance. In case the unofficial information is correct, it is time to sell off the stock of existing Shields.
Nvidia Shield is based on Nvidia Tegra 4 system-on-chip (four ARM Cortex-A15 cores, Nvidia GeForce graphics adapter with 72 stream processors), is equipped with a 5” capacitive touch-screen with 1280*720 resolution (294ppi) and features 802.11n Wi-Fi technology with 2*2 MIMO antennas to stream PC games. Project Shield's ergonomic controller was built for the gamer who wants ultimate control and precision. The portable device also has integrated high-quality speakers. Nvidia Shield runs Google Android (4.0) Jelly Bean OS.
As a pure Android device, Nvidia Shield gives access to any game on Google Play. And as a wireless receiver and controller, it can stream select number of supported games from Steam from a PC powered by Nvidia GeForce GTX GPUs, accessing titles on its Steam game library from anywhere in the home.
The campaign only works in select stores in North America for a limited time.
