The Doom video game from id Software has always been a cult since this was not only one of the first three-dimensional video games, but also one of the first titles capable of playing via local area network. While the Doom 3 title was rather popular, it became clear that to get the franchise working going forward, a new idea will be needed. According to a fantasy writer, he is working on that idea.

“I'll also be working on the computer game Doom 4 for id Software. I’ve been playing Doom for some years. Okay, here's a secret: I don't actually tickle the keyboards into simulating lines of deathless prose for the full eight hours per day. No. The creative batteries do run low at moments, it has to be said, and to recharge them I might […] casually mangle a few demons in Doom,” said novelist Graham Joyce in his online blog.

It is unclear when the novelist started to work on the plot of Doom 4, but if that work started several months ago, the actual title may not see the light of the day for several more years.

“Now, since I've been hired to contribute to the storyline of Doom 4 I can say what was always true anyway. I'm working. You see, for a writer, lots of stuff that doesn't look like working is actually working. Looking out of the window, for example. Balancing a pencil on the edge of the desk in order to find its exact fulcrum. Playing Doom. Lots of things,” Mr. Joyce added.

The Doom 3 title from id Software was released in 2004, five years after the firm launched its another major title Quake III Arena. Unfortunately, it looks like the Doom 4 is unlikely to emerge in 2009.
