Imagination Technologies Group on Monday said that it has signed a multi-use license agreement with MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company, for a member of Imagination's PowerVR SGX graphics processor family. MediaTek will deploy the technology in its future system-on-chip devices.
Mediatek designs and sells a broad range of chips aimed wireless communication, optical storage, high-definition digital TV and DVD products, therefore, licensing of advanced graphics cores from Imagination Technologies may be rather important for both companies. Unfortunately, there are currently no details regarding Mediatek’s future SoCs with PowerVR SGX graphics core.
Under the terms of its licensing arrangements Imagination receives license fees, and royalty revenues on shipment of SoCs incorporating Imagination's intellectual property.
Last week Intel Corp., the world’s largest maker of microprocessors, became the second largest shareholder of Imagination Technologies with 13.99% of shares.
