In accordance with the plan to significantly boost shipments of its media tablets, Asustek Computer this week introduced another slate with moderate price. The new Asus MeMo Pad 10.1” will sell for only $299, but will feature a powerful quad-core application processor and a high-definition display, thus providing a powerful alternative for Apple iPad mini.
Asus MeMo Pad Smart is based on Nvidia Tegra 3 application processor (quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 [+ one low-power A9 core] with GeForce graphics core) and runs Google Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean” operating system. The media tablet is equipped with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of NAND flash internal storage, which can be supplemented by up to 32GB via the SDHC card slot. The slate features a 10-point multi-touch LED-backlit IPS display with 1280*800 resolution, 170-degree wide viewing angles, and its 350-nit brightness means images remain clear, even outdoors. The product also features 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, 5MP main and1.3MP front-facing cameras, microphone, micro-USB port as well as Asus SonicMaster audio and MaxxAudio for high-quality sound.
Asus MeMo Pad Smart is powered by Android 4.1 and comes with a number of exclusive Asus apps. With SuperNote Lite, users can read, type, and scribble anytime and anywhere; while WebStorage Office makes it easy to view, edit and create Microsoft Office-compatible documents. Apps can also be password-protected with App Locker and App Backup creates back-ups of installed ups on internal storage or an SD card.
Asus has also announced the Folio Key, an optional wrap-around protective cover for the MeMO Pad Smart that incorporates a Bluetooth keyboard for enhanced productivity. Folio Key also incorporates a tabletop stand that holds the display at a comfortable angle for watching movies and typing. The keyboard is powered from its own internal battery and can be used for up to one month on a single charge.
Asustek’s MeMo Pad Smart is probably the world’s first powerful media tablet with 10.1” screen and $299 price-tag. The product has all chances to become popular and outsell numerous competitors, including Apple iPad mini and Apple iPad 2 that is still available on some markets.
