While it is obvious that a number of leading consumer-electronics companies are working on interactive smart watch products, the most interesting aspect about the products is when are those devices are set to become available and who will lead the market. According to Topeka Capital Markets, Apple may release its long-rumoured iWatch this calendar year.

“We believe the much-hyped Apple (AAPL) iWatch is showing early signs of movement in the supply chain and will be launched this year with interesting new technology features that have not yet been touched upon,” said Brian White, an analyst with Topeka Capital Markets, in a note for clients cutting information obtained from component suppliers from Taiwan, reports Tech Trader Daily.

Interactive wrist-watches are supposed to be companions for smartphones and media tablets. It is logical to expect smart watch to feature media player controls, information updates, calendar, compass, reminders, NFC payment system and other functions that do not require a lot of screen real-estate. A lot of users will also appreciate custom apps for such devices.

Wearable electronics gadgets are among the main trends of 2012, it appears. Google and LG Electronics are developing their augmented reality glasses. Numerous other companies, including, but not limited to Apple, LG and Samsung are working on interactive wrist watches.

Apple did not comment on the news-story.
