Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced the new pricing of PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) portable game consoles as well as made 3G option free in the U.S. Earlier this year the company performed PS Vita price-cut in Japan. In addition, Sony officially enabled streaming of video games from PlayStation 4 (due to be available later this year) to PlayStation Vita via Wi-Fi networks.

From now on, PlayStation Vita with Wi-Fi and PlayStation Vita with Wi-Fi and 3G cost the same price of $199.99 in North America. The new price, down from the original launch price of $249.99 for the Wi-Fi model and $299.99 for the 3G/Wi-Fi model, applies to all PS Vita systems available at retail, including the limited edition PS Vita The Walking Dead bundle launching this week. SCEA will also reduce the price of the PS Vita memory cards up to 33%.

Even though Sony has not made any announcements concerning the European price-cut, this is something that is logical to expect in the coming months.

“PlayStation Vita’s new price makes it an even more compelling value for gamers looking for the ultimate in portable gaming. With a strong holiday lineup, including the first PS Vita games from critically acclaimed developers Guerrilla Games and Media Molecule, plus integration with the highly anticipated PlayStation 4, now is the perfect time to become a PlayStation Vita owner,” said Guy Longworth, senior vice president of PlayStation brand marketing at SCEA.

Sony PlayStation Vita is based on a system-on-chip with four ARM Cortex-A9 cores, PowerVR SGX543MP4+ graphics engine (accompanied by 128MB of memory) and a memory controller. The new portable game console has 5" multi-touch OLED screen with 960x544 resolution, typical set of PSP buttons, two cameras (front and rear), Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, GPS, six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer), three-axis electronic compass, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR controller, integrated speakers and microphone as well as multi touchpad located on the back side of the system.

Looking ahead, the PS Vita system will be the ultimate companion device to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system when the entertainment system launches this holiday through key features like “Remote Play”. This innovative feature allows many PS4 games to be streamed on PS Vita at home via Wi-Fi, wrapping gamers in their favorite content on PS Vita’s 5” high-definition screen.
