With the launch of Nvidia Shield portable game console, it became obvious that the company decided to enter the market of actual hardware in a bid to maximize sales of its own application processors and achieve certain other strategic goals. As it appears, Shield will not be the only device that Nvidia Corp. will offer: the firm is working on its own brand media tablet called Tegra Note.

While Nvidia at present denies existence of Tegra Note, in order not to frustrate its partners among hardware makers, who are working on their tablets based on Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 system-on-chips, images of the gadget have been published by various web-sites, including ChinaDIY. Currently it is unknown when Nvidia plans to roll-out its Tegra Note slate, but it is logical to expect it to become available this calendar year.

Judging by the exterior design of Nvidia Tegra Note, that part of hardware is more or less ready, but nobody knows whether the internal things are finalized.

While general specifications of Nvidia Tegra Note have not been announced, quite a lot is already known based on unofficial sources and images of the media tablet. The Tegra Note slate is based on Nvidia Tegra 4 system-on-chip, Google Android 4.2 operating system and comes with 7” display with rather odd 1280*736 resolution, according to TechKiddy blog. The gadget features stereo speakers on its sides; 5MP rear camera with autofocus (but without a LED flash); a camera on the front; microUSB, microHDMI and 3.5mm audio connectors; a stylus with Nvidia’s DirectStylus tech support as well as microSD TransFlash memory card slot. The device comes equipped with a special protective cover.

Pricing of Nvidia Tegra Note remains to be seen, but one can expect it to be between $200 and $300, given the fact that there is a lot of competition in the segment of 7”-class slates.

Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.
