ASUSTeK Computer plans to spin off its recently acquired facility in Chungli,
Asusalpha Computer will be 100% owned by ASUS, but will run totally independently from the parent company. The business model is under consideration and it is not clear whether ASUS will find clients for the fab or will offer the company to seek for orders itself. In case ASUS works with clients of the subsidiary the Taiwanese company may be able to transfer orders with lower profit margin to Asusalpha Computer and manufacture more profitable products on its own factories.
The Chungli facility where ECS makes iBook notebooks for Apple computer is capable pf manufacturing from 150 to 200 thousands of notebooks per month. Under the terms of the agreement, ASUS will pay $5.76 million for the factory and the land it is located on, nearly $2.54 million for the equipment and also will also buy the material stock that will be left after the 30th of June.
