Apple Computer recently established a campaign that allowed new clients of the company to test drive Mac mini computers before purchasing for 30 days, but hours after the information was spread over the Internet halted the promotion possibly due to intense demand for the tiny computer systems.

“We’re so confident you’ll love your new Mac mini, we’ll let you test drive it for 30 days with no risk. If you decide you don’t want it, we’ll take it back,” a statement by Apple reportedly read, according to MacCentral web-site.

Apple supplies three versions of its Mac mini PCs at $499, $599 and $699 price-points without display. The basic model features 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 chip and 40GB hard disk drive, whereas more expensive offering integrate 1.42GHz chips and 80GB hard drives. All the Mac mini computers feature 512MB PC2700 memory; ATI RADEON 9200 graphics chip; 10/100Mbps Ethernet; AirPort Extreme wireless networking (802.11g), internal Bluetooth module, FireWire, USB 2.0 as well as other features. The most advanced Mac mini for $699 now includes SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW burner), whereas two other models utilize combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) optical drive. Customers can also order 56K modem, 1GB of memory and other enhancements.

The campaign was exclusive to Apple’s online store and was not intended for the company’s retail outlets or reseller stores. The company promised to replace Mac mini as well as a mouse and a keyboard if acquired altogether within 30 days after purchase without any restocking fee, according to reported terms.

Possibly due to overwhelming demand for the test drive of Mac mini computers caused by publication of the information about the campaign over at different news-wires, Apple has halted the campaign and at press-time the appropriate link leads to the company’s online store.
