Samsung Electronics, a leading consumer electronics company and the world’s leading producer of liquid crystal displays (LCDs), has unveiled the world’s third 30” LCD designed for desktops and workstations. So far, Samsung’s 30” display offers the highest contrast ratio compared to Apple’s or Dell’s models, but cannot boast with the lowest price.

The SyncMaster 305T display has 30” diagonal with 2560x1600@60Hz native resolution, 400cd/m² brightness, 0.25mm² pixel pitch and 178°/178° viewing angle, similar specs to what the rivals offer. However, the new monitor has 1000:1 contrast ratio, whereas Apple Cinema HD Display 30” and Dell 3007 WFP offer 700:1 contrast ratio. Given that LCD monitor manufacturers use different methods to measure panel’s response time, it was impossible to compare the potential performance of the parts correctly at press time.

Samsung’s SyncMaster 305T consumes about 130W of power, meanwhile Apple’s and Dell’s offerings can consume up to 150W of energy.

While Samsung offers lower power consumption and somewhat better specifications compared to the rivals, the company does not offer the lowest price within the industry. The Seoul, Korea-based maker has set $1999 price-bar for the new monitor, the same amount of money that Apple asks for its Cinema HD Display 30”. At the same time, Dell has manufacturer suggested retail price of $1699 for its 3007 WFP that is sold for $1444 from Dell’s web-site.

The Samsung SyncMaster 305T will be available in November, 2006, through Samsung resellers and distribution channels, the company indicated.
