OtherMicrosoft and Yahoo! Met to Discuss Potential Merger – Sources.Microsoft and Yahoo in Talks about MergerCategory: Other by Anton Shilov [ 03/14/2008 | 10:49 PM ]
Despite of the fact that Yahoo! rejected Microsoft Corp.’s take over proposal back in February, executives from the two companies recently met to discuss the potential merger. This may not be an indicator that Yahoo! is looking forward to becoming a part of Microsoft, but that the company’s executives are exploring different options when it comes to Yahoo!’s future. The session was intended to allow Microsoft to present its vision of a combined company, and Yahoo executives mostly listened. Financial terms were not discussed and it was unclear which executives took part, reports Reuters news-agency citing the Wall Street Journal, which quoted its sources as saying. The news-agency further reminds that Yahoo has held talks with News and Time Warner’s AOL. The meeting with Microsoft is a part of the company’s strategy to keep all its options open. Microsoft proposed to acquire Yahoo! following disappointing quarter results of the latter for about $44 billion back in late January. The two companies would form a formidable giant that would operate in many industries and provide an ultimate amount of services to millions of users worldwide. However, as with every acquisition or merge, the combined company would become somewhat less competitive on certain markets. Yahoo! refected the bid. Microsoft and Yahoo did not comment on the news-story.
