Asustek Computer, a leading maker of computer components and notebooks, has unveiled a new incarnation of Asus Eee PC, a small form-factor desktop system. The new Eee Box will compete against entry-level products by other makers, but will offer not only relatively low price, but also very compact size.

Asus Eee Box is based on Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz) processor and an Intel chipset, features 1GB of DDR2 memory, 80GB hard disk drive, Wi-Fi 802.11n controller, Gigabit Ethernet as well as a card reader. Asus Eee Box does not feature optical disk drive, hence, can hardly be considered as a multimedia-oriented personal computer. The system comes with Windows XP Home operating system.

The manufacturer ships Eee Box without monitor, which may be a negative peculiarity for those clients looking for a stylish personal computers which match displays in terms of design.

The launch of Asus Eee Box is inline with Asustek Computer’s strategy to broaden the family of Eee-branded devices to address new markets of personal computers.

Pricing of Asus Eee Box is unclear.
